Growing up exploring the countryside and shore of southern Maine gave Elizabeth M. Barnes an appreciation of the three dimensional world around her. Her thirst for knowledge led her to graduate with honors from Augusta State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Ms. Barnes' artwork, including sculptures in bronze, alabaster, and terra cotta, intaglio prints, and paintings in oil and acrylics, have been shown in numerous galleries and art shows. Ms. Barnes's accreditations include: Who's Who of American Women (Edition 21 and 22), South Carolina (SC) Quarterly Grants (Fall 1993), Share Grant (1993), SC Visual Arts Roster (1992-present). She has received awards for sculpture and/or painting at Aiken Artist Guild Shows (1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 2000) and the SC State Fair Award of Merit, 2002. Ms. Barnes has also appeared on SCETV's "BEAT" to discuss her belly casts on May 7, 2003.

For years, Ms. Barnes has worked with persons with disabilities and their families in a variety of positions in Maine, Indiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama. She is now focusing primarily on her art. She has been employed as an art instructor for the Art Factory in Augusta, GA since the fall of 2002. In 2003, she formed, "Artful Expectations," to preserve and celebrate children's first home in the womb by doing commissioned torso and belly casts of pregnant women.
